Settled Status

Settled Status is a permanent UK immigration status granted under the EU Settlement Scheme. It is equivalent to Indefinite Leave to Remain and allows individuals to live in the UK permanently.
Eligibility for Settled Status
EU, EEA, Swiss citizens and their family members may qualify if they:
- Resided in the UK by 31 December 2020
- Have no serious criminal record
- Have lived in the UK for at least five years
- Maintained continuous residence (no more than 6 months outside the UK in any 12-month period, with limited exceptions)
- As of July 16, 2025, pre-settled status holders can qualify for settled status (indefinite leave) by proving they have lived in the UK for at least 30 months (2.5 years) in total within the last 5 years
Duration and Work Rights
Settled Status is permanent and allows individuals to:
- Live in the UK permanently
- Work without restrictions
- Study in the UK
- Access public services and benefits
- Apply for British citizenship
Settled Status may be lost if you leave the UK for more than 5 consecutive years (4 years for Swiss citizens).
